Remote education provision
When a pupil is unable to attend school – for example during school closures, restrictions, or due to individual illness or recovery – we will implement the following remote education procedures in line with Department for Education guidance.
Purpose and scope
Remote education will be provided only when absence from school is unavoidable. It is intended as a short‑term, high‑quality alternative so that pupils stay engaged with their learning and remain connected with teaching staff and peers.
Communication with Parents and Carers
Parents and carers will receive regular email updates, ideally daily during sustained periods of remote education. Each email will include links to relevant Oak National Academy lessons, covering key elements of our curriculum such as mathematics and phonics. These resources provide a structured approach, aligned with national materials for ages Reception to Year 2.
Printed Resources
In addition to online lessons, pupils will be provided with paper‑based work in phonics and mathematics. This ensures inclusivity and accessibility for families without suitable digital devices or internet access. Home reading books will also be provided.
Learning Expectations and Curriculum Coverage
Work will be equivalent in length to regular core teaching time, adapted to suit each pupil’s needs. The provision aims to be high‑quality, meaningful, and ambitious, covering a broad range of subjects to keep pupils on track with in‑school learning.
Supporting Early Reading and Phonics
For younger pupils, we emphasise the structured practice of phonics, mirroring in‑school teaching approaches. Parents will receive guidance and materials to support reading at home, such as decodable texts and phonics exercises linked to our chosen systematic, synthetic phonics programme.
Monitoring Engagement and Providing Feedback
Class Teachers will provide regular feedback to support learning, and will regularly contact parents or carers via phone or email.
Ensuring Accessibility and Inclusion
Where digital access is limited, we will continue to deliver printed materials.
This ensures equitable access to learning for all pupils, including those with limited resources or additional learning needs.
Safeguarding and Online Safety
All communications with pupils during remote education will follow our established safeguarding policies, ensuring safe and professional contact methods.
We encourage all parents and carers to supervise their child’s online learning and to maintain strong online safety habits at home.
