Blossom

Someries Infant School and Early Childhood Education Centre operates a SEND Base known as Blossom. This provision supports some pupils with an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan, as well as others who benefit from a more personalised approach to learning.

Blossom provides a bespoke educational model designed to help pupils achieve their academic and social potential. Each pupil follows an individualised timetable and education programme across both their mainstream class and Blossom. These programmes are developed collaboratively by staff and parents or carers through the child’s Personalised Support Plan (PSP). Plans are tailored to each pupil’s individual and developmental needs and are regularly reviewed and adapted as the pupil develops. Pupils also benefit from access to specialist technologies that support communication, as well as the development of early reading and writing skills.

Blossom is a small, inclusive provision located in our Key Stage One Department and is designed and equipped to support pupils with a range of additional needs. These may include, but are not limited to, autism, speech and language difficulties, and challenges with social interaction. Support within Blossom is needs-led and tailored to each pupil’s individual and developmental needs, rather than being determined by diagnosis or chronological age.

Pupils attending Blossom are supported by qualified Class Teachers and SEND Educators who work closely with mainstream staff to develop personalised programmes aligned with the key stage one national curriculum and each pupil’s Personalised Support Plan (PSP). This collaborative approach helps to identify and address any barriers to learning within the mainstream classroom.

Our vision is that pupils accessing Blossom will be supported to become fully integrated members of both their mainstream class and the wider school community. As such, pupils attend Blossom on a blended basis while remaining part of their base class throughout the academic year.

Blossom is not a local authority-approved SEND resource provision. Its operation is funded directly by Someries Infant School and Early Childhood Education Centre to meet the needs of pupils allocated a place at the school through its usual admissions process. Pupils can be admitted to Blossom if Someries Infant School and Early Childhood Education Centre is named on their Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan.
