Embedding an effective writing curriculum: Developing cross‑curricular composition
We would like to thank the team at Someries Infant School and Early Childhood Education Centre for their warm welcome and supportive guidance regarding their approach to teaching writing. It has been most helpful and thought-provoking as we consider our next steps. It is clear that such a focused and engaging approach to writing has paid dividends for their pupils.

Inspiring Young Writers: Exploring Our Whole-School Writing Curriculum
This enriching training package offers participants a detailed overview of our carefully crafted writing curriculum, with a particular focus on our unique approach to cross-curricular writing within the context of our Prime Learning Challenge Curriculum.
Throughout the session, participants will develop a deeper understanding of how our writing curriculum supports effective assessment strategies to drive meaningful pupil progress. We’ll explore practical, research-informed approaches that ensure consistent curriculum coverage and highlight the importance of a well-structured, progressive writing programme.
A key element of the session will focus on our distinctive approach to cross-curricular writing through our distinctive Prime Learning Challenge Curriculum. Participants will examine how carefully planned writing opportunities are embedded across subjects in a way that is purposeful, engaging and rooted in meaningful contexts. This approach not only secures writing progression, but also enables pupils to apply and deepen their writing skills through a rich, thematic curriculum.
In addition, participants will be introduced to our strategies for handwriting development and high-impact teaching techniques that support pupils in building fluency, stamina and confidence in their writing.
A guided learning walk will offer a first-hand opportunity to see our pedagogical approach in action—demonstrating how writing is brought to life across the curriculum and how our carefully sequenced approach makes a tangible impact in classrooms.
Ideal for literacy leads, classroom practitioners and curriculum coordinators, this session equips participants with the tools, insight and inspiration to strengthen writing outcomes across their setting.
